If you ask our Founder, Taylor, to talk about her favorite coffee moment, you better be prepared for a long story. Lucky for you, we can paraphrase ….

Origin

On a January evening in 2011, Taylor was sitting inside her favorite coffee house in Chicago. Outside, snowmageddon was barreling down on the City and people were panicking. Inside the café, Taylor sat with a huge smile sipping on her first-ever Ethiopian natural processed coffee. The combination of 21” of snow and a perfectly sweet and creamy coffee evoked a childlike wonder in her. Thoughts of strawberries 'n cream on a cold winter night danced in her mind.

When Taylor tasted this Aricha for the first time, she was immediately transported back to that moment in her life. She was filled with happiness.
Although we spaced-out a bit when Taylor was telling us the long version of the story, we agree that this coffee sparks joy!

Map

Located in the heart of the Yirgacheffe region of Ethiopia sits the market city of Dilla. A few minutes from town lays the famous Aricha washing station in which this coffee hails. The washing station is comprised of 1000+ local farmers and is known for some of the highest-rated coffees in the world.

However, this station has not always been a pinnacle of Ethiopian coffees. In fact, by 2017 the station had been closed for a number of years and was desperately in need of a revival. In 2018, Faysel Yonis brought the communities together to resurrect the washing station. Working within the community to make the coffee process better and more equitable, Faysel ultimately landed the blessing of the elders and Aricha was rebuilt. Aricha is now a booming hub that the coffee world admires.

The Cup

Constantly innovating and developing the station is a mission of Faysel. In order to maintain that commitment, Faysel brought his young and talented nephew, Adham Yonis, onboard as the manager of the station. Fun fact--Adham, was born in Ethiopia and raised in Texas. He served in the U.S. Army for eight years and has now moved back to Ethiopia to join the family business.

The Cup

Sweet, creamy and floral. This cup starts off with a bang instantly reminding us of strawberries 'n cream. As the coffee cools, rich honey notes are balanced by a jasmine tea finish. We describe this cup as delicate yet lively.
